Busy week

Had a very busy week & good to do nothing today-Ball game and picnic middle of the week, put on by the bank & graduation party for two of Ev's grand-children saturday-plus lots of company over the weekend-Getting to old for all of this-
The bank still invites us to thier annual picnic, even though no money there no more. It is held at the Doubledays ball park & ball game with that minor league team, included free.
Ev is kinda wiped out & really shouldn't be doing so much, but won't give up. Today she is mainly sleeping in her easy chair. very hard for her to lay in bed very long.
Just looked at Jan's Blog site & love her pictures she puts on it. Don't have a way to do that. Cell phone is wiped out also this week.
Have a wonderful day, all of you-

Flood

Was thinking today, as I heard more news about the floods in the midwest, about this part of my life-
In the early 1930's my Dad built a beautiful cottage on Cayuga lake. He built it up high from the water & on cribbing filled with rock & stone all done by hand. It was a wonderful place with Fireplace, Hardwood floors, three bedrooms and a modern kitchen for that era. He built it himself with of course no power tools at that time. There were very few cottages at that time along Interlaken Beach
In the summer of 1935 when I was seven years old we started to spend summers there. Sometime during that summer the area had a large flood and rained for days. Dad had an old Model T & he tried to get us out in it as the lake started to rise. All the bridges by then were washed out, so he turned around and said we would have to spend the night at the cottage. By the time we got back to the cottage the lake had gone up several feet and it was getting dark. In the room I slept in there were double bunks. He put me in the top one & at that age I was scared & watched as the water came in and covered the floor. By morning it had covered the lower bunk.
Sometime that morning the rain had stopped & Uncle Floyd came up the lake by boat to get us out & we were all glad to see him. It wasn't too many weeks and we were back staying there again and guess it dried out, with not to much damage.
Later that week we drove to Trumasburg to see the damage there. You would probably not notice today but a large creek runs under Main Street. This came over the main street and washed a good chunk of it out, along with a business and some homes along the creek.
After this flood work was done on both ends of Cayuga Lake, so this could not happen again. I remember all this as if it was yesterday. Dad sold that cottage in 1944 I believe, while I was in the Navy, Jean in the Marines & Jackie at school in Rochester.
A note about this cottage & the dock-I could not swim at that time, but fell of the dock over my head and learned the doggy paddle in a hurry. Could in later years swim for a couple miles.

Names

This may not be very interesting, but something I was thinking about as I lay in bed this morning-
As you all know I was named Robert Lyle Dickerson at birth- Since that time I have been called several names & have answered to all of them.
1-Robert-( sometimes when my Mother called me that, instead of Bob I thought I was in trouble, but her & I got along very well always as I remember & never even spanked me )
2-Bob-( My usual name from everybody )
3-Dickerson-( Always this as I played sports in High School or was called on in roll call in the Navy )
4-Dickie ( Called this forever by a Male teller in the Bank & not sure why )
5-Bobby Lyle ( By some of the girls in High School, as they learned my middle name )
6-Dick ( I guess by some, because of my last name )
7-Tricky Dick ( By some of my male friends when I had out foxed them )
8-Squirrel ( This was started by a friend of mine Mort McCheyne, as we bowled, golfed, played cards and were close friends throughout the years, he died at about 50 of cancer & never did find out the reason for him calling me that )
9-Lil Rob ( By a friend of mine Brian & guess because I had lost 4 inches in height as I grew older )
10-Dad & Grampa or Gramps ( By my Children & Grand children, which I love to hear )
11-Mr."D" ( by my Doctor, Dr. Vounas )

This is all I remember, but always answered to them thru the years, ( probably some others that I would not want to remember )

Saturday Morning

A very nice morning & in the low seventies. Nothing going on today, so probably some baseball on T-V & reading. I read about one book a week, which I guess is good for the mind.
The higher dosage of Keppra the doctor put me on, is screwing me up some. I had blood work yesterday to see what it is doing, but won't know til tuesday or wenesday. Just feel funny since going to this higher dose.
Evelyn's daughter Choen from Binghamton is coming later in the week to stay a couple nights with us. Her daughter Samantha graduates from High School friday & a party for her in Geneva on saturday. We will try to take in some of it, but very hard for us both at times. Choen has a blow up mattress to us, as we have room, but no other bed.
Talked with Brother David last night. He has the downstairs bathroom about done. The small place has two bathrooms, one with a tub and one with a shower. Also working on the kitchen. He does nice work.
Bought a new electric razor with my Father's Day gift cards & some other small things. I heard on a program on T-V that something like 20% of gift cards are never used. I sure love them' & get things I never would, that I need.

Cool Down

Hey finally cooler- Lots of storms yesterday, but did help & we needed the rain-We were both whipped after the weekend, but a wonderful weekend.
Took Ev's wheel chair back yesterday, as we use it si little & bought her a neat wheel/seat/basket Walker. Really a neat thing & should help her a lot right now.
While out rode over to Brother David's little house project in the country. His wife Katie goes back to Florida this morning, as she has to get back to work. She works for the Florida State legislature. David is doing a nice job on the home, but lots to do yet.
Good today to just goof off. Still having some problems with my new meds, but hoping they work, as I want to keep driving, at least around town.
Have a good day You All-
P.S-A nice note on my comment section from Morgan-

Friday the 13th

Woke up to kinda humid. Suppose to be hot again today. Seems to hot for early June.
Started my new seizure meds last night. Feel a little funny this morning, but as Ev said maybe need to get use to the new dose. This is the highest strength they make, so better work. Very expensive meds, about $900 for each order( 90 days ). Lucky even though I pay $537 a month for all our health insurance, with all of Ev's meds it is worth it.
Having trouble with car door. Kathy dropping off some wrenches, so maybe I can fix it, if not a trip to Waterloo. Thought I still had some socket wrenches, but like many things I gave them away when we moved I guess.
May run to the store after while & thats it for the day. Gas now $4.09/gal & it is amazing how much I use just running around town. Hopefully no more trips to Rochester for a while. Just not comfortable driving in city traffic any more. Boring being in most of the time, but things could be worse.
Old guy 98 across the hall fell yesterday. I went & helped him up and into his chair. Weighs about 220 so not an easy pick up. Can't believe she keeps him there as she is 90. He just sits and stares or sleeps all day, & never gets dressed.
Everybody be careful today, as it's friday the 13th.

Hot & Humid

Very hot & humid today-Out only for a few minutes to the dumpster-Have the air and fan both going- Suppose to be hotter here tomorrow-Oh well could be worse and five feet of snow-
Ev hurting quite a bit today & feel sorry for her-Tomorrow we both see our local Doctor here in town-Should be interesting-
Kathy called last night& talked about Father's day next sunday-Told her not to fuss, just seeing everybody is great-She said I am the Patriarch ( spelling ) of the family so we have to do something-
Nothing interesting or new to write about

Today

Very hot & humid today-Stayed in most of the day-Out for maybe an hour to store & to check out a couple apartments-Still looking for someplace without stairs to climb-None here in this complex, except for basement apartments & they are out for Evelyn due to moisture.
Watched the Belmont race and was disapointed in the favorite. Then my Yankee's brought about a stunning win in todays baseball game.
Made burgers & Ev had made a salad for dinner. Sure miss having a grill, which we can't have here.
Going to do some reading now-Started a book last night & should finish it tonight-Ev and I both do a lot of reading, which is good for the mind and soul-I read at least a book a week.
Have three fans going and the air conditioner & looks a little like rain-

Rested

After a very busy day yesterday, got a little rest today. Ev got her spine cemented in Rochester yesterday. She is suppose to take it easy for three days. She does think it helped, as not much pain so far today.
Surgeon said as long as she takes steroids for her breathing, she will probably have more fracture of the spine. After five years of Oxygen 24/7 she needs the steroids for extra help breathing
We go back to Rochester tomorrow to have dye scan of the lungs, & see if she needs more or less steroids ?
Kinda a humid day here today and have the fans on. Fixed breaded chicken breast for dinner & got a couple loads of wash done and some shopping.
A call from brother David & they had gone out in his new canoe last night. Getting a lot of work done on his summer country home. Must get out & check the place out again.
Kathy took us to Rochester yesterday & thankful for that as I still didn't feel to hot. Feel okay tonight, so should be okay for the trip tomorrow. Hate to bother anyone doing things for us, if I can help it.

Bad Day

Had a bad day. Wanted to get out to do a couple things, but had about a dozen siezures during the day. Two pretty good ones & the rest mild, but scary. Calmed down at least for a couple hours now. Very scary when they come on, as feels like electricity is going thru your body. some are more severe than others.
While I was resting Ev put a call into the doctors, for a check on this next week. Hate to do it, but know I should. Just afraid they will make me quit driving again. Oh well I must as I get older take what comes.
Want to be okay in the morning to go with Ev for her spine operation. Kathy is now going to take us I guess. Suppose to be a simple procedure, but not sure with all her other problems. We will know more tomorrow on that.
Was going out to get her some oxygen for tomorrow, but she had to call & have them deliver it. I get six of the small portable each time I go.

Picture

Just thought of something I was going to say & forgot. Can't believe that I ever looked like the picture on my blog site & here I am 80 years old. That uniform I have on, I gave to Rebecca to wear in a play she was in in High School. Also I believe the bars for my service were on the uniform. The picture was taken for the year book the year I would have graduated from ICS and was a full page one in that year book. Guess that was because I was the only boy to leave school & serve in WW-2 from that class ??
I think I have told this, but I did finish High School in Ithaca at the age of twenty.

Lazy Day

Lazy day today. Did get to Wegmans for some goods. Woke up feeling lousy & a good headache. Looked rainy all day, but nothing yet. Had our usual sausage & waffles for sunday morning. Spent $85 at the grocery store and gas pump. Can't believe how much more all things are now. Hope somebody in the good old USA can straighten things out some. Wonder how people today could handle a depression like I grew up in. I look back & I think it was good old FDR who straightened things out back then.
At fourteen I was working in a restaurant & grocery store, so had my own spending money. Got fifty cents each morning before school cleaning up the restaurant before it opened, then in the summer worked for a dollar a day and a dollar and a half on saturdays in a grocery store. Then found a better deal in the canning factory for 25 cents an hour the following summer.
Know a lot of people out of work at the time, but always something out there if you looked hard enough. Dad was lucky and had a pretty good secure job, but nothing extra most of the time. He worked two jobs most of the time to make ends meet, as he was a very good carpenter.
Hope somehow things get back to better for the younger generation. I feel blessed that my family are doing okay and good jobs, so I don't worry to much about thier future. Just the big thing today is the countries debt which my children & grand children will have to deal with.
Okay enough of the for today. The beginning of the week & may it be a good one for us all-
