A little snow finally tonight. can't believe this winter so far, as no snow at all here, but lots around us. I'm sure we will pay soon.
Got Ev to the Mall yesterday in the wheel chair & got her to the stores she wanted. Kinda hard pushing with my bum wrist, but glad I could do it. I'm finished with my Christmas shopping I think. Hard to get into shopping much at this age.
Still trying to get onto Morgan's new Blog & no luck. Got to be doing something wrong. I'm sorry that I write on my very seldom. Just lead kind of a boring life, so not that much to write about.
Had $300 of work done on our car friday & now today the drivers window won't work. I checked that out & they want $350 to fix that, so on hold for now. Just so it doesn't go down & can't get it up.
Made peanut butter/oatmeal cookies tonight. Not good for the waist, but I love them & will share them.
Evelyn asleep in the easy chair, so trying to be quiet in here with the computer & a puzzle. Lost one edge piece of a 1000 piece pizzle & that is bugging me.
Okay enough for now-

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Hi everybody-Haven't written in some time & don't know where the time goes-Example is just 65 years ago yesterday, Dec.7th I joined the Navy. Ya know it doesn't seem that long ago.
Still trying to get on Morgan's new blog site & no luck-Must talk to Jan again about it-Went to Doctors today as having BP problems-She gave me one more drug to take-while over in Auburn I got a lot more shopping done-
Suppose to get lots of snow tonight-Lucky so far as none at all & here it is Dec.8th-Never do I remember it this late-
Not much to talk about & life is kinda boring this time of the year-We got our little tree & decorations up over the weekend-
Okay Good Night

Saturday, October 31, 2009

A nasty rainy day, & am sick of rainy days. Not doing much lately. Very hard for Evelyn to get out. I do get to the store & bank every couple days.
This next month we have a few Doctors appointments, which will make us go. Both in Rochester & Auburn. I do worry driving because of my problems, but not ready to give it up yet. Most thing here that are necessary are close by.
Have been enjoying the new Super Wal-mart here, which is much nicer than the Super one in Auburn. Lots of brightness & wide isles.
Expecting some trick or treaters tonight, so got a big bag of candy for that. Got things we like, so if if not many come.
Ev not breathing good lately & lots of pain, so I worry about her. She tries to do things, but very hard for her. Her 71st is this week.
We are invited to Jim's 50th next saturday, but don't think we can go. A long trip over there & party after dark, which I can't drive after dark. Also Ev & the steps to get in over there. Also Ev's daughters wedding in Binghamton that day & also to far for us to try that either. Haven't seen them in a long time.
Talked to Cheryl, Jan & Kathy on the phone the past couple days. Tried to call Sandi a couple times, but no luck. Jan & George gone to Buffalo to help Garrett move this weekend.
Okay hang in there you all & I love you-

Monday, October 12, 2009

Just back from shopping-Had to get out, as I go stir cazy inside all the time-Evelyn rode along, but didn't get out of the car-Put up a hanger in bathroom and shelf in the kitchen since I got home-
Did a wash this morning & some ironing-Things around home keep me pretty busy-Just read Jan's latest Blog-She has some very interesting items & pictures on it-
Got to think about supper-Chicken thighs & Uncle Ben's rice & probably a salad- That is one thing I love to do, is cook-Hate to think of the day I can't anymore-Made peanut butter cookies last night-As much as I eat, I don't know how I have lost 20 pounds-
Have to check the paper & see when my Yankees play next in the playoffs-

Hi Everyone-
A crazy week last week-Had a lot of company & a trip to Auburn for Ev's doctors visit & our Flu shots-Was really beat by the weekend-As I get older it is harder & harder to keep up with things-
Had a crazy day last monday, with several mild seizures-They are scary & don't come often, thank goodness-I stay in and away from things til they leave me-
Stayed in all this weekend-Have to go back to Auburn tomorrow for a drop off of our slider curtain to a friend-Have been trying to find someone to give it to, as it is no use here & don't plan on moving from here in the near furure-Will do a couple more errands while over there-Don't miss the driving in Auburn-
Did a laundry this morning-Will cook pork chops & dressing for dinner-Need some grocery shopping, but that will wait another day-
Our new Super Wal-Mart opens next wenesday-We will be at Doctors in Rochester that day, so will check it out later-Then thursday of next week we get our new Time Warner phone in-Unlimited calling anywhere in the U.S. all the time-Hopethis is not a mistake, but having a bad time with Verizon & can't afford it-We will keep the same phone number-
Okay time for an old man's nap-Love Ya All-Dad/Grampa/Uncle

Went to Sampson Navy Base on saturday to check out the Navy Museum & the side walk brick the girls bought me to be place there-We had an interesting time & checked things out pretty good-Jan took some good pictures, which she put on her Blog-
The next day she found the different ships I was on in WW-2 on the internet & that was interesting for me to see & read about. Brings back a lot of memories-
That was sunday & on monday went to the Golf Tournament that Karl puts on each year to Honor Felicia-Can't believe she would have been 18 this year-He gives a Scholarship each year in her name at South Seneca- Mostly Prison Guards in the tournament & about 200. A nice dinner after at the Golf Club.
Also had a Yard Sale at Kathy's on saturday & got rid of lots of things-I appreciate her having it-So a busy weekend & still trying to Re-Coup

Monday, August 24, 2009

Had some old thoughts tonight & will write about them. I might have written of this before, so forgive me if I have.
Was watching some Real Estate trasactions on T-V & it is hard to believe the price of homes today. My thought was that in about 1950 I built my first home for $6,500. This was just the material, as it took me two years & I did all the work myself & with no power tools. My Dad did help me and advise me along the way. I sold it later for $12,000. Even a house like that today would probably be up in the 80 to 100 thousand range. Of course I was working for about $2,000 a year then.
I drew up the plans for this home & the bank accepted them. Also only a four persent interest rate & I believe a $39 a month payment. I was a pretty good carpenter, but not a good cabinet maker. My Father, God Bless Him taught me a lot about carpentry.
Along with this story is the cottage I built on the lake. I believe it was 1958 & I was given a small old place on the lake that I tore down. Took a while but I built what I felt was a cute small cottage, with a dock and boat hoist. Sold this in 1963 after Phyllis died & was deeply in debt for $6,500. Boy what would that be worth today.
Sure have a lot of memories, both good and bad. Hate to go near the lake today where that was, as that was one of the hardest things I ever was forced to let go of.
Okay that my housing and building story for today-

Saturday, August 15, 2009

Had a trying couple of weeks-Ev in the hospital & a pretty sick girl-Lots of running back & forth & lots of phone calls-She is now trying to re-coup-Gets tired very easily-
Finally getting things settled in new home & am very tired myself-It has been a very hectic two months around here-Guess getting old doesn't go well with all going on-
We like our new place-Very bright & comfortable-Miss the extra room & extra bath, but will get use to that-Stores & bank close by which is a plus-Not liking to drive that much anymore & know I shouldn't with my health problems-I try to be very careful-Miss the trips we use to take, but have the memories-
Hoping to go to a class luncheon atWagner's Winery on monday, if things work out-This will be our 64th & not many left, or healthy-Okay everyone out there have a wonderful day & week ahead-

hi Everybody-
Just realized again that almost a month since I have written on my Blog. A very busy and tiring month, as we were moving & getting settled. I am sore and tired, but glad it is over & we like our new apartment. Some flaws, but nothing to serious.
Ev has been kinda sick the past couple days. Not sure what is the matter, but a very bad night last night.
Finally got things pretty well settled this past week, now just finding where we put things. Had to get rid of a lot as a smaller apartment. Everything in this area we need & driving much easier for an old guy.
I think if I figured right this is my 25th lifetime move. This is not counting my travels while in the Navy. This has got to be it, as I feel like I aged 10 years just thru the move.
Okay all for tonight. Will try to get on here more often-

Friday, July 3, 2009

Just realized it has been almost a month since I wrote anything-Have been very busy packing things up for our move to Seneca Falls-Was there yesterday & they think they will have our new place ready by mid July-
Have everything packed that we aren't using & I believe 32 boxes-
Brother David was here today with his family-Hadn't seen Amy in many years and she has a very nice husband & a very cute adopted boy, two years old-Sister Jackie & Nancy from Weedsport came over also-David, Amy & family didn't stay long at all which was sad, as probably will never see Amy & family again in this lifetime-
Got my new Interlaken Historical Magazine today & it has my latest article in it. Have one more I have written & probably will be in the next one.
Kinda wiped out from all the sorting & packing & hope I never have to move again. Going to be a little hard going from three bedroom to two with all are stuff, plus the big oxygen concentrator, but we will make out somehow.
Okay will try to write again sooner. Not sure if we wi;ll keep the same internet service or not, when we move, but will keep in touch with all.

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Nothing much-Just talked to brother David- He is in california for a wedding & spending some time at David Jr. new restaurant there on Hollywood Blvd..
Lower back & hip hurting & a few mild seizures in the night, so not doing much today. Have quite a bit sorted & packed already. Did get over to the drugstore for a paper. We get the Post Standard on sunday & the lady across the hall, who passed away always got the Auburn paper, then we would swap.
Going to watch my favorite baseball team at in a few minutes. The Yankee's of course. Yesterday was a busy day in Auburn, with Sarah Palin & family here fo founders day celebration. Never cared to much for her speeches, so didn't go near downtown.
65 years ago yesterday my brother-in law Gordon, Phyl's brother was killed in D-Day invasion. a very sad time for that family. He was a Lieutenant in the Army & if I remember right 27 years old.
Okay all for now-

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Didn't get out today, but a busy day. my lower back & hip are hurting bad, but got a lot done. Trying to do a little each day to prepare for our move to Seneca Falls. Haven't been able to see the apartment yet, but having lived there before, we know what we are getting.
Quite a surprise when we found out the girl from Seneca Falls who was in the finals of the national spelling bee in Washington, lives in the apartment we are getting. They have bought a home & are moving the first part of july. We watched the spelling bee & at the time didn't know she lived there.
A lot to do, as we have to get rid of a lot, as going from three bedroom & two baths to a two bedroom one bath. Hope I can stand up to it til we get moved. It will be so much easier for Ev, as she can walk right in a ground level. She just can't do the seven stairs here & that is the big reason for the move. Will miss the deck here, but Seneca Falls is a nice town with everything we need. Doctor & Oxygen will be a minor problem. We will be about half an hour closer to Rochester where she goes once or twice a month. Oh well it will all work out.
Ev's granddaughter Sam was here today for a while. She just got discharged from the Air Force & back home living with her Dad in Palmyra. She is about six months pregnant & expecting a boy.
Okay all for now-

sad day

Today we went to the funeral home to say goodbye to our friend & neighbor. A sad day, but she is at peace , I believe. She had no children, so her nieces & nephews are here cleaning out her things. She was a collector & saver, so I'm sure it is quite a job. I see the big dumpster out back is full allready. We will miss her, as we visited daily & I took her to the Nursing Home some to see her Husband there.
Found out she had her Stroke on the local Scat Van, while headed to the nursing home. Poor Joe her husband is bad dementia, so will probably not realize she is gone. it hit Evelyn bad, as they had become very good friends.
Kathy was here while we were at the funeral home & left a large planter for our deck. It was so nice last year to have the same.. I try to put a few flowers in a smaller planter on our railing. have been fighting bees out there on the deck this year.
Tomorrow Ev' daughter from Binghamton & family are coming. I'm fixing a Ham dinner & just made an apple pie. I made the pie from apples that neighbor Stella ask me to get at the store for her the day she had her stroke. She gave me money to get them, so I gave the money to her nephew yesterday & decided to do the pie. Even if I do say so, I make a pretty good pie.
Weather nice today, but a heavy rain just as we came home from calling hours. Ev had a bad time getting out, but was determined to go with me there. She has not had a good several days breathing & pain. We go back to the Vascular Surgeon in Rochester on wenesday & will hope somone can help her some. I'm a little concerned about driving up there, but so far okay. I know the day is coming that I can't. We both know that if it wasn't for her Rochester Doctors she wouldn't be here today, so can't think of giving that up.
In about three weeks or so, David will be coming up to his little home in the country for a while & anxious to see hime. She will come up later I guess.
To all the Mothers have a good Mother's Day. I know I have told this story to some, but it is hard to believe, but very true. I walked away from my Mother's grave at the Lakeview cemetary one day & she said " Goodbye Bob" very plainly. This is true & I can never forget it.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Just finished watching Yankee baseball & they are finally getting it together. Kind of a nice day after all the early heat. Took Ev to doctors & did some shopping. Getting so I love the shopping part, now that I have the time.
Not much going on. Read in my Union Magazine where a kid that started working at P.O. about the time I retired just retired. Boy that makes me feel old. I will have been retired 27 years this fall. Hard to believe I've made it this long.
Nice to have good weather to get out more. My back pain is letting up quite a bit, so easier to get in & out of the car. Our poor car is 7 years old & am hoping it passes inspection when I take it in for inspection on friday. Still runs very good & figure I won't be driving to much longer, so don't want to get into a car payment unless I have to.
Having a problem with bees, so hard to enjoy the deck. This usually lets up once the trees are thru blooming, as we have lots of trees here.
Okay almost bedtime. Wanted to write something, even though it doesn't amount to much, as I haven't written lately-

Lazy Sunday

Not much going on today, but a beautiful day out-Did a couple loads of wash, which I usually on monday-Going to be gone most of the day tomorrow ( Ev to hospital in morning & Kathy taking me to Eye Doctors in Ithaca in the afternoon-
Watched a Yankee game & read some with a couple hour nap this afternoon-Haven't been feeling to hot since my many seizures on wenesday & thursday-Usually goes away in a day or so-They changed my med for that to Generic & hope thats not the reason-
Finally finished a puzzle we have worked on for weeks-A tough one, with lots of same colors in it-I've gotten so I like to do them to pass the time-
Really not much to write-talked to Michelle & Cheryl yesterday-

Nuttin much

A busy day-Ran the cleaner & mopped the floors ( kitchen & both bathrooms )-Sounds exciting- Did some grocery shopping & as usual had a list of four things, but came back with ten-
A busy day monday-Took Ev to the breathing doctor at Strong in Rochester-He checked her over very good and changed one med-Evelyn's sister Ruth went along, she is an RN, so wanted her to go in with us & understand Ev's problems better-A long round trip of three & a half hours, plus time at the Hospital-Can't believe how big Strong Hospital has gotten-Have been going there on and off for 50 years or more.
Jan & George are coming tomorrow- I really appreciate that, as it is a long round trip for them-Just goofing off tonight after watching my Yankees play this afternoon-
Okay a boring life, so not much to write-Did get the Interlaken Historical magazine with my article in it- I sent another story for the next issue if they want to use it-Wish I was younger I would try to write a book ( don't laugh )
Love to you all- Dad

Another lazy day-Cool and rainy-Staying in I guess & maybe watch a ballgame this afternoon-Glad to have baseball starting, as that is my favorite sport to watch-
Got my three page article ready to mail today to the Historical society-I'm working on another & will keep it in my save file til finished-
Ev says her eyes are some better today-I was lazy & didn't get up til almost nine-Now am tired & ready for a nap-Doctor says I sleep to much-
Okay all of you have a good day=

getting lazy

My Grandaughter says I have not written on my blog in quite a while-Really hard to think of things sometimes-
Today & yesterday ran around, plus many phone calls to get one of Evelyn's meds for her-Finally got it today in Skeneatlus ( spelling again )-Must learn to spell that village right-Then by phone several times more to cancel two orders that would be to late from Caremark in Texas-
Tomorrow we go to Eye surgeon in Ithaca for her to have her left eye Lazered-Hope it comes out good, as so far the right isn't that good-
She is having a real bad time with the stairs here, but no luck yet on finding a ground floor apartment with no steps-
Been writing some more to send to Interlaken Historical Society-They seem to like my stories & will print one in the next issue about School Merger of interlaken & Ovid- I wrote about this, as I was president of the Interlaken School board at the time-
Now I'm trying to write about Interlaken in the 1930's & 40's-So hard at times to remember to remember names-
Okay I will try not to neglect this Blog so much-

Blog site

With Ev on the blog site now, I will try to remember to write Dad at the end of a blog I write & she can put lilly after hers. To set up her blog under our e-mail name, we both are under the same blog, I guess-? Confusing, but if we both sign Dad or Lilly it should work out okay.
Jan & George here today for dinner. They had some car trouble, but got back home okay. was good to see them and visit. Sounds like they have had a bad week, with refridge trouble, car & teeth, so hope a better week for them coming up.
Tired out so to bed very soon-Dad
It is lilly's page

Evelyn's blog

Hey Evelyn has her own blog site, so check it out

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Hi Everybody-Haven't written for quite some time, so will attempt something. All of Evelyn's grandchildren of the Foster family, plus thier Mother were here for lunch today. They brought lunch, so that was easy. They each had thier boy & girlfriends with them, plus one dog, so that was nine, plus the dog.
Not much going on. Ev had some bad times breathing, but a little better today. We are still looking some for a walk in apartment, but hard to find. Hate the thoughts of moving, but Ev just can't do the steps anymore.
Been working on a puzzle, which keeps the mind busy. A few minor dizzy feelings lately, but nothing serious. I go back to the Neurologist in Rochester next month, so maybe he can add to my medications.
Doctor wants Ev to have a shingles shot, as she says being on the meds she is & steroids she is a good candidate for shingles. Very expensive & medicare won't pay, so trying to find out what my supplemental policy might pay. She is also having eye problems & hard to read, so will check that out with the eye Doctor soon.
Raining hard right now and a little cooler, but still not bad for this time of year. Remember to set clocks ahead tonight
Okay got to go rest, as am beat from all the company.

Nuttin much

Just finished lunch & ready to goof off after I finish running the cleaner. Got two loads of wash done this morning.
Not much going on. We have a puzzle going on the card table & lots to read. I'm getting so I read a book a week or more. Bought about forty at last years book sale, so no shortage there.
It has been snowing on & off all day. That makes for a boring inside all day. The snow is pretty, but getting tired of it.
Just found pictures on nieces Amy's blog site. Very good ones, but for some reason my computer won't let me see them all. I will keep trying as I get on the internet. Jan has some beautiful pictures on her blog site.
Just got our car insurance bill & I think it is very high ( $896 ) per year. Probably could find cheaper, but don't dare fool around to much at this age, as one little thing & they would probably take it away.
Okay really nothing to write about-Have a good day out there, all of you-

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Happy Valentines Day

Just up from a nap, so will attempt some writing. I get so tired anymore, that I have to lay down in the afternoon. Lots on the news about the terrible plane crash in Buffalo. So sad for all those people & there families.
Finally got everything going pretty good on the new computer. The fix-it man downloaded all the old files from the old one, so I was lucky there. Had five pages on that one written for my Historical Society articles I write & saved them. Must work on that some more before I send them. They print in their paper pretty much all I send them. The one I'm working on now is about Interlaken in the 1930's, as I remember it.
Kathy called & has monday off, & wanted to know if we would like to go to Turning Stone with them that day. We will if Ev feels like she can stand it & it will be fun. We don't get to do much anymore.
Sounds like her major surgery will be a go March 10th. We will know for sure in a few days. I have a room reserved at RIT Inn while she will be in Strong Hospital.
Weather not bad the past week & some days in the forties. Can't wait for Spring to come. Wish I had a lawn to mow & that sounds crazy.
Bought a new disc for making cards, calendars & stuff on the computer. It is a Hallmark one & much nicer than the old American Greeting one, so expect some new & different things during the year.
Okay a Happy Day to you all-Dad/Grampa

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Long Time

Finally back on the computer-Ours broke down & after finding how much to fix it we bought a new one-Had a time getting my account back on AOL-
Now I'm trying to put things back in-The guy working on it downloaded all our old files, so we could save them- I will try to write something interesting before long-One thing I haven't been able to bring back is my Greeting card file to make it work- I love to make cards, so will keep working on that-
Hang in there & Dad/Grampa will get back to normal-

Friday, January 23, 2009

lots of things

Have been goofing off on the blog, so will attempt some writing-ev got word yesterday that her liver tests were okay, so now it's a go on the by-pass the first of march-We were both a little nervous about that-
Wrote an article for the Interlaken Historical Society's next paper. wrote about the School Merger. Some things I want to write about, but it is hard to remember things. The merger, I was a big part of it and President of the School Board when the State first reqested it, so things weren't to hard on that article. I have written some things for them before, & they published them-
Almost forty here today, but suppose to get colder again tomorrow. Kathy called and Joe her bird, has a bad tumor. She took him to the vets & guess not much can be done. She gave me that bird in about 1983 or 84 & when I moved she took him back. So that makes him pretty old for that type of bird.
Ev's daughter Donna here staying on the couch tonight. She had a Biopsy of her thyroid in Auburn, when it got time for her to go home she couldn't handle it. they told her it would be a week before results known.
Got Ev out for a few minutes today & up to Wal-Mart. Kinda wiped her out, but warm enough so she could breath outside. I did grocery shopping, while she did a couple clothing things she needed.
Guess I better quit for now-Love to You All-

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Not to bad a day, but still kinda cold-Hope the weather holds off til wenesday, as I take Ev to strong in Rochester on tuesday to find out about her liver-
Always think in the winter of the many winters in the country & getting stuck & shoveling my way out of many problems-Still wouldn't change it for anything-The best job in the world-My Dad always said the same thing-
Would be good now being retired to get away for a bit in the winter, but thats not to be-Sit back, read, watch T-V & think of the Good Old Days-Not bad as long as you don't have to get out-
I'm making a meat loaf & bake potatoes for dinner & can smell the garlic in the meat loaf-Love to cook, so that is a good past time-
Seems so more snow & cold than usual this winter-Hope the new President can straighten the country out- I know it will take time, but don't want our children & grand-children to have to suffer to many months & years of this mess-
Okay stay warm everybody & spring will soon be here-

Sad, but true story

Not sure I should write about this, but dreamed about it recently & it won't leave my old mind-I've seen many people die in my life, but think this was one of the sadist-
It was sometime in the 1950's-I was coming up from the lake & had just turned off Rt. 89 onto Cayuga St., a mile from uptown-I saw a car coming around the curve by where Cayuga & Powell Rd. connect & it rolled over into a deep and large ditch-Got there & stopped the car & could hear screaming from under the upside down car-I ran to the house on the opposite corner & got the guy to call for help-Apparently people were pinned under the car a convertable type, but couldn't see them or get at them-The first thing to arrive was a tow truck from Gas Station up on the corner-He put a chain on the car & tried to lift it off them-Only a little ways up the chain broke and dropped the car back on them, & I found out later that at that point killed them all-So sad, as we found out later there were four young boys under there-
It was a scene I tried for years to forget & did til recently-No lesson learned here, but I guess you do the best you can when things are so helpless-

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Haven't written on my blog since New Years-Had a miserable cold/flu & still can't get over it, but some better-Starting to eat some again & lost about 20 pounds-
Not much going on in our lives as Ev has been sick also-She is tougher than I so getting over it quicker I think-Just watch Syracuse basketball & the Med Store commercial I am in was on twice in that- Only seen in the central New York area-
Lots of snow & sick of it allready-Don't mind too much as long as I don't have to get out, but miss the fresh air when I don't-Lots of reading the past couple weeks, probably four books-Get tired of T-V all the time-
Not much going on this next week, unless we get word to get Ev back to Rochester for more tests-She has good & bad days-
Okay can't think of much-Love you All

Thursday, January 1, 2009

Happy New Year to all my Family and Friends-Hope the new year will bring ( HEALTH, HAPPINESS & PROSPERITY TO YOU ALL )-
Tough day yesterday-Jan & George took us to Strong Hospital in Rochester & a very bad snow storm-Took about three hours to get there-Ev found she has to have a new by-pass on her left side as the right is plugged after only three years, or so-Not good , but will pray it helps her- The surgeon is booked solid so can't do it til Mar.10th-He is the best in the east, so want him to do it-
Better today & some sunshine-Woke up with a rotten cold-
Love you All-
